"Aliens Eating Babies" Thumbanil

"Aliens Eating Babies" Thumbnail
In this thumbnail I was trying to hone in on what I wanted my aliens to look like and came to a halt when I drew the tentacles on it's head. I then developed a body that looked starved and a few extra limbs. I then decided to take the mouth off of the head and create an opening in it's chest which is more baby-eating size-appropriate in my opinion.

"Something Moving" Sketch

"Something Moving"
When I realized we had to draw something moving I automatically knew I wanted to draw a horse. They have such characteristic movements and grace. Horses have been a mode of transportation for people for as long as they have been tame-able by man.  It gives the impression of movement so I believe this sketch is a success, although I might have shaded it differently if I had drawn it a second time.

"Something Mechanical" Sketch

"Something Mechanical" Sketch
For my mechanical sketch I had originally wanted to draw the inner workings of a clock, but it proved to be a task quite more intricate than the one at hand, so I decided to draw something that I think is awesome and would like to have (in circumstances where a limb is lost of course). I think if I was to change anything, I would try to shade it so the robot hand seemed shinier, and probably would have put a table under the hand to give a cast shadow and the impression of depth and dimension.

"Back In The Day" Complete

Back In The Day Complete Illustration
During the final illustration, I moved the gazebo more towards the center of the piece to get rid of the awkward negative space, and colored it so the samurai and the dragon would be the focal point and the background is more neutral to create deep space within the piece.

In my second round of sketches, I changed the warriors stance to be more visually interesting, as well as a background to add dimension and space to the piece.  The gazebo adds more culture to the piece, but I feel the placement of the gazebo leaves distracting negative space on the right side.

For my back in the day piece I wanted to give a feeling of ancient Japanese/samurai culture.  I like the manga feel that this sketch gives, but the stance of the warrior is not visually interesting enough to make the piece complete.

Inorganic Sketch

Inorganic Sketch
For my inorganic sketch i wanted to do something manmade that has much use today in society.  The shading is a success but I feel if i put it on  table and created a cast shadow it would have been a more realistic drawing with three-dimensional elements.

Organic Sketch

Organic Sketch
For this sketch I chose a bowl of fruit. I feel it is a success because it gives off a very organic feel and the shading is done nicely because of the light source. I think to make it better i should have given it a background to give dimension to the sketch.

For this thumbnail I wanted to get just a basic idea and layout of what I wanted for this illustration.  The Aliens will look quite different, and I would like to make the organic element in the painting more alien-like.

Tom Cruise as a Cowboy Sketch

Tom Cruise As A Cowboy
I made this sketch as more of a caricature because of my own personal distaste for Tom Cruise.  I feel it looks enough like him to be able to tell, which is a success. The fact that he is a cowboy doesn't really come across however, he looks more like a farmhand than anything.

People In a Public Place Sketch

People In A Public Place
For this sketch I went online and found a picture of four kids playing cards and thought it was a good fit.  I feel it could have been drawn much better, but it does give the insight that they're in a public place playing cards.
